The California Lagwagon was founded in 1990 and, along with The Offspring and Green Day, managed to gain solid popularity as part of the 'second wave of punk'. But where The Offspring is hardly taken seriously by the righteous punk rocker because of (alleged) sales practices and Green Day can hardly be called punk rock anymore, Lagwagon appears to have not yet put a drop of water in the wine on this
… seventh official album. In fact, the band sounds vicious, tight and pulls more firmly than ever. Add to this that the songwriting qualities of singer Joey Cape (also active in Bad Astronaut) have improved by leaps and bounds and the best Lagwagon album ever is a fact. The songs run like a train, are catchy but nowhere too poppy and do not fall back on (punk) clichés. It is still possible to play interesting punk rock. (RWK)more
