As the singer of the rhythm & blues groups Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith, Stevie Winwood (1948) made a name for himself in the 1960s as perhaps the best soul singer in England. As a gifted keyboard player, he was also a welcome guest on the albums of his rock colleagues. His first solo album was released in 1970. Arc Of A Diver (1981) and Back In The High Life (1986) are generally
… regarded as the highlights of his oeuvre. His eighth album Junction Seven (1997) failed miserably and it took Winwood six years to recover from that hangover. On the aptly titled About Time, with Winwood invariably behind the Hammond organ, the songs are often composed of long drawn out (funk) jams, which unfortunately do not always have equally memorable melody lines. You can enjoy the extremely inspired teamwork of the band members and of course the golden throat of Winwood, which has still not been affected by time. (MS)more
