Keane consists of three ordinary people in their twenties from the English town of Hastings, who make music that fits perfectly in the list of Radiohead, Travis and Coldplay. The latter group in particular is a frequently heard comparison, but by not using guitars, Keane has managed to turn the much-copied sound of Coldplay into a perfect piano pop. In this harmonious sound, there is plenty of room
… for Keane's great asset: the powerful, emotional voice of singer Tom Chaplin. Although Keane makes serious music, he is careful not to get too pathetic - with the occasional exception like She Has No Time. That makes them rise far above the countless comparable English groups. The high quality of the song material is striking. All twelve songs have memorable melodies, sing-along choruses and are about recognizable topics, often in the relationship sphere. A rare strong debut. (MS)more
