The Amsterdam band Coparck surprised in 2001 with their debut album Birds, Happiness & Still Not Worried, which was in the Murder List of Ear for months. That album that was released worldwide consisted of beautiful songs that were decorated with atmospheric samples and jazzy synthesizer sounds. Few Chances Come Once In A Lifetime continues that trend in a pleasant way. Singer Odilo Girod has
… a dreamy voice that feels very British, but can also whisper from time to time, like Mark Linkous from Sparklehorse. The opening track Breaking News sets the tone for the rest of the album: slow jazzy trip hop for the Sunday afternoon with the occasional outlier to up tempo rock (Surfing On The Rainbow). Lyrically Coparck is also fine, titles like The Art Of Blowing Holes In A Heart and Surfing On The Rainbow prove that we are dealing with a creative band here. (JdD)more
