The American R&B singer Brian McKnight can be compared with colleague R. Kelly on certain points. They are some of the biggest names in modern R&B (although R. Kelly is of course the king) and both write and produce their own music. But where R. Kelly can make the distinction between fantasy and reality less easy, McKnight keeps it neat. Of course Brian McKnight's CDs are mainly filled with
… sultry ballads from the category of bedroom music; he knows how to package it all just that little bit nicer. There are also no surprises on his seventh album Gemini. McKnight sings about his love for women and God, and as always he does so properly. The vocals and production leave nothing to be desired, and two songs with guest appearances from Talib Kweli and Juvenile, Akon and Skip make it clear that Brian McKnight can also connect with hip hop. Gemini will not disappoint enthusiasts. (IV)more
