American singer LeAnn Rimes made her debut in 1996, when she was 14 years old. They wanted to market it in all kinds of ways. Originally as a country singer, on her previous album Twisted Angel as the new Britney Spears. The critics about this path were not so favorable and that seems to have attracted LeAnn (and her management). That is why Rimes on This Women returns somewhat to her country roots,
… but in a responsibly poppy way. Some songs are reminiscent of the power of Melissa Etheridge, others are more like Shania Twain's country pop. In America this style is called 'adult contemporary country', not the most exciting genre. Yet LeAnn Rimes seems to be in her element with This Women, at least this image suits her better. (JdD)more
