Each trend is a response to the previous one. After the successful weltschmerz of the Radioheads and Coldplays of this world, a fresh wind seems to blow with bands that radiate that it is especially fun to make music. Franz Ferdinand is the best-known example, but their support act Kaiser Chiefs also stands out with uplifting music. Once founded with the modest ambition to be able to perform at the
… local Leeds Festival one day, the Chiefs went to the top at lightning speed, with a performance at Pinkpop 2005 already guaranteed, even before this debut album was in Dutch stores. It is therefore a relief to hear a band that does not have all the suffering in the world on its shoulders, but simply makes songs in the best British tradition of Blur, XTC and Madness. A welcome echo from the time when you could also dance to guitar straps and an album was just a collection of singles. (MS)more
