The inspiration for Deadwing, the tenth album by the English band Porcupine Tree, was found in a film script that frontman Steven Wilson wrote together with a director friend. Although only a script, the atmosphere, lyrics and artwork of Deadwing were inspired by the 'surreal ghost story' that Wilson wrote. … strongly influenced by ambient (often the intros), as well as solid guitar riffs that go towards metal (think of Tool, for example). A song that really stands out is Lazarus, a beautiful melodic piano ballad that forms a remarkable resting point between all guitars. The diversity of Porcupine Tree is best expressed in the more than twelve minutes long track Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, which starts quietly but turns into fierce metal halfway through, with a guitar solo and backing vocals by Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt.
