With a status as one of the most important groups in modern electronics, Autechre can afford anything. If the duo Sean Booth and Rob Brown want to experiment and make a CD that is almost impossible to listen to, that is no problem at all, and since the debut Incunabula (1993) the two have started to sound more and more abstract. In any case, the listenability of Autechre's music is debatable, because
… not everyone is suitable for a jumble of 'clicks & cuts', glitches, at first glance a-rhythmically bouncing beats and sounds from the 'squeaky' category. In any case, you cannot dance to it, that is clear. The eighth CD Untilted contains eight tracks that are mainly concentrated around drum patterns. The melody in the first four tracks is hard to find. Songs like LCC or Augmatic Disport sound with their merciless pounding beats as if every human element has disappeared from the music. Those looking for something recognizable or rhythmic are better off with the second half of the CD, where Iera and Sublimit have more structure. Untilted is familiar sounding, but heavy stuff.
