Frontman Joe Pernice started out as the singer of the Americana group The Scud Mountain Boys, with which he made several records in the nineties. Pernice Brothers is more focused on alternative pop, but still has an americana vibe. The albums that the group made, Overcome By Happiness ('98), The World Won't End ('01), Yours Mine & Ours ('03), were well received, mainly because of the great songs
… and pleasant vocals of Joe Pernice . It's not much different on Discover A Lovelier You. There are beautiful songs with a lot of sixties influences and polyphonic vocals that are reminiscent of The Beach Boys. In Snow there is also a lot of rocking, while My So-Called Celibate Life is again very floaty and subdued. A perfect balance between rock, lo-fi, americana and singer / songwriter pop. (JdD)more
