The English duo Floetry consists of singer Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie Stewart, who have given themselves the names Songstress and Floacist. Their debut album Floetic (2003) fitted well within the emerging neo-soul genre, in which old soul as well as modern hip-hop and R&B serve as sources of inspiration. Floetry has a clear division of roles: Ambrosius sings, while Stewart plays a mix of raps
… / spoken word. It's a combination that worked well on Floetic, and it still does on Flo'Ology. The spoken lyrics of Stewart often give the songs a more poetic charge and extra depth, while the sultry vocals of Ambrosius prevent the listener from wandering, because sometimes it threatens to become somewhat boring. Flo'Ology may have a slightly less organic sound than Floetic, This is mainly due to the producers with whom they worked this time (including Scott Storch and Raphael Saadiq), but as a whole it turned out to be a nice relaxed and pleasant CD.
