On her previous album Something Dangerous, Natacha Atlas's voice could be heard as a beautiful background sound in music full of electronic trip-hop influences. Fortunately, Mish Maoul's voice re-emerges in a series of songs with an unmistakable acoustic and Arabic sound. Fans of her albums Gedida and Halim can breathe a sigh of relief. We hear instruments like the ney, kanun and zourna and we can
… dance to belly dance rhythms like saaidi and maqsoum. But sultry South American rhythms are also used, such as in Ghanwah Bossanova. Natacha Atlas keeps up with the times. Rappers Princess Juliana and Clotaire K sing along to songs that call for more political awareness about what is happening in today's world. On the last track, the singer in the subdued song Yariet is only accompanied by guitar and can focus all attention on her singing. Actually, she should do that more often. Unfortunately, no translations in the CD booklet. (CP)more
