They don't reach millions of sales and their only hit (La Bamba) dates back to 1987. Yet Los Lobos is still considered one of the best bands in the United States. Although the group's roots lie in the crossover between Mexican and American music (texmex), Los Lobos' records are characterized by an enormous stylistic variety. … songs tell of the so-called second-generation immigrants from Mexico, born and raised in the US. This translates into predominantly melancholic, atmospheric, English-language rock songs, with excursions to more traditional, Spanish-language music. It is thanks to the strong and recognizable interplay of the musicians that these musical extremes can stand side by side so naturally. An excellent singer (David Hidalgo), catchy songs and inspired interplay: Los Lobos simply has no weaknesses and is in better shape than ever more than three decades after its foundation. (MS)more
