The barely twenty-year-old Jamie T. was already called 'One man Arctic Monkeys' in British pop magazine NME, following this debut. But T. is more than a gifted speech waterfall, he almost exclusively tinkered this album together which resulted in a relaxed mishmash of indie pop, hip hop, ska, rock and punk. On top of that, the young Londoner reports extensively and with a lot of bravado about his
… life, half rapping and half singing in the slang we also know from, for example, The Streets, Lily Allen and of course Alex Turner. It is a downside that T. hardly does choruses (too busy telling his story) so that few songs from Panic Prevention really stick. And yes, T. is yet another British 'geezer' whose lyrics are drenched in drinking parties, fleeting loves and other festivities. In that respect he can effortlessly join (at the bar) with The Fratellis, The Rifles, Five O'Clock Heroes and other British contemporaries. (MR)more
