The most beautiful and timeless thing about 's compositions is that they are always open to interpretations. In the early 1970s , singer and frontman Bryan Ferry blew up the acoustic Dylan ballad A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall to apocalyptic proportions. Decades later, Dylanesque appears on which Ferry - once a gifted songwriter himself - takes on another eleven Dylan songs. He now does this remarkably
… soberly, most of the songs are carried by Chris Spedding's bare, tight rhythm guitar. Ferry also keeps his singing sober this time and without theatrical effects. He chose a number of striking titles, such as Gates Of Eden (from ) but also a track from the more recent Dylan album (Make You Feel My Love). With the umpteenth versions of Knockin 'On Heaven's Door and All Along The Watchtower, mediocrity does strike, like meaningless rippling music for supermarkets. (MR)more
