A real flower child. We remember singer / songwriter Carly Simon from the seventies and like a flower child she presents herself again on the cover of Into White, barefoot in a flowing summer dress. Although she is a gifted composer herself - who does not remember timeless hits like You're So Vain and Coming Around Again - she has already opted for several albums to perform songs by others. After
… several records based on the American Songbook, Into White focuses on the tradition of the singer / songwriter. The songs mostly come from writers of her own generation, such as Paul McCartney (Blackbird), Cat Stevens (Into White) and her ex-husband James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes). The two children Simon had with Taylor (Ben and Sally) also sing along on the latter song. In addition, she ventures into widely-interpreted traditionals such as Oh! Susanna and Scarborough Fair. The modest arrangements can be called downright dull at times, but Carly's recognizable beautiful voice makes up for a lot. (MS)more
