Maybe Ellen ten Damme is too capricious for a country like the Netherlands, where just doing is the norm. The actress and singer moves just as easily in the jet set of the film world as in the underground of the rock 'n' roll, which makes her difficult for Jan Public to place. In addition to her solo singing career, she was briefly a member of the fierce Haarlem artist band in the 1990s , a notorious
… company, especially on stage. When asked about her personal taste, however, she invariably opts for the melodic pop and rock from the 60s and 70s. Impossible Girl is the first album where this preference is explored, six years after the somewhat forced (2001). With producer Frans Hagenaars, guitarist Robin Berlin and drummer Henk Jonkers (both ex- ) she has managed to attract some important representatives of the Amsterdam 'sixties' school. In all its craftsmanship, Impossible Girl may not be Ellen's most exciting project, but never before did her clear voice come out better. (MS)more
