The Finnish cello quartet Apocalyptica realized that most gimmicks usually have a limited shelf life. The four started with covers of well-known metal songs performed on their cello and thus made name and fame. After a few albums more and more of their own songs were added to the repertoire, so that the sixth studio album Worlds Collide barely contains a cover. The one that is on it is a special
… one: Heroes by David Bowie, only now in German (Helden) and sung by Till Lindemann from Rammstein. More famous names are participating, including Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour) and Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil), and drummer Dave Lombardo (Slayer) is participating in Last Hope. Tracks with vocals and instrumental numbers alternate on a pretty solid record in which the cellos still form a special element. (IV)more
