Even before the release of this debut album, the band OneRepublic already had a huge hit to its name. Strangely enough it was not the original version of Apologize but the remix of Timbaland, the r & b producer who is also their record boss. He signed the band after seeing a performance in a talent show on MTV. Of course his successful remix is also (as a bonus track) on Dreaming Out Loud.
OneRepublic's face defining figure is singer and songwriter Ryan Tedder, raised on a musical diet of alternative rock, and with a special fondness for U2. Yet there are also strong influences from pop and R&B in the music. Perhaps the influence of producer Greg Wells, who previously worked with Mika and Pink, has asserted itself here. In terms of voice and production OneRepublic is comparable to Maroon 5, and the two bands are on tour together. With this extremely hit-sensitive debut album, nothing stands in the way of a successful musical career. (MS)more
