His country trip to Nashville (2006) must have pleased Solomon Burke, one of the few remaining soul legends from the sixties, because on Like A Fire this' king of rock 'n soul' trades his crown for a tough Stetson hat. Burke shows here that the border area between country and soul does not have to be as terribly large as one might suspect, and that both genres can thrive together very well. For
… example, soul is effortlessly incorporated into country songs and the sparse soul songs are cheered up with the western guitars of Danny Kortchmar and Dean Parks. The production is in the hands of drummer Steve Jordan who keeps both styles in perfect balance. The repertoire this time comes from the pens of songwriters Eric Clapton, Jesse Harris, Keb 'Mo' and Ben Harper, where the latter duets with Burke on A Minute To Rest And A Second To Play, the undisputed highlight of Like A Fire.
