Live CDs from Tom Waits are rare. These recordings were made in 1977, two years after the release of the live album Nighthawks At The Diner. That is also the only background information we get, on this release from the obscure label Woodstock Tapes. So this release is a bit vague, but that doesn't change the value of the recordings. We hear a fairly improvising, jazzy band, with music that is not
… very reminiscent of the pots and pans blues of his later years. Immediately recognizable is Waits' out of thousands of recognizable hoarse voice, with which he was already considered one of the great singer / songwriters of his time. This is food for his fanatic fans from the very beginning; as a first introduction to the Tom Waits phenomenon it is less advisable. (MS)more
