There are those invisible artists who have been making progress for years. They slowly manage to win their own audience, without ever really getting into the spotlight. The shy Swedish singer Sophie Zelmani also walked that slow road to success, who is already releasing her sixth album with Ocean And Me. Just like the previous five, this record contains intimate whisper pop with lyrics full of
… personal outpourings. Musically it is all nice and laidback with a band that sounds like a Scandinavian version of JJ Cale. All musicians play in the service of the music and do not afford any excess. The (English) songs also excel in simplicity, perhaps because of the language barrier that forced Zelmani to limit himself to the essentials. Anyway, in all its unemphasis, Ocean And Me is a particularly beautiful listening album. (MS)more
