With her debut album, the Frisian singer Nynke Laverman proved that fado and the Frisian language go together very nicely. For her second album and theater program Maisfrou she went out into the wide world and intertwined fado with Mexican influences. For her third project Nomade she left the familiar environment again to discover unknown areas. She traveled east on the Trans-Siberian Express and
… lived with a nomad family for a month on the vast steppes of Mongolia. Mongolian culture inspired her in writing her lyrics. For the first time, Laverman wrote all lyrics and music himself, in collaboration with guitarist Ward Veenstra, among others. The music sounds rougher than on her previous albums, with more beats and sometimes even electronic music. The instrumentation is very varied, in addition to special instruments such as marimba and dulcimer, we also regularly hear strings and wind instruments. The music of Björk and Radiohead inspired Laverman to create equally idiosyncratic music. The beautiful surrealistic and fairytale design of the CD cover by Femke Teussink (photography) and Else Boekema (artwork) should not be left unmentioned. (SvdP)more
