Slave was the first album by South African Lucky Dube to be released internationally. It was released in 1990 but Dube has been active as a professional singer since 1979. Initially he played rock & roll but after hearing Peter Tosh he started playing reggae. Slave was Dube's third reggae album and the cover immediately shows Dube's intentions. Dressed in uniform, he fights the Apartheid regime
… with texts that seek to foster mutual understanding. His call to spirituality shows traces of the Rasta idiom, but he also draws on his own Zulu background. Slave is a decent roots reggae album without too much fuss. (PdK)more
