The Haarlem pop rock band The Sheer managed to score well in 2004/2005 with two extremely energetic Britpop albums. The singles Stay Awake, Something New and Love Is The Law were picked up by 3FM and became minor hits. … Bart van Liemt had written a series of melancholic songs, partly inspired by a period in which he was ill for a long time. For the mostly young, female fans of the band it will take some getting used to, the switch from cheerful pop rock to modest country rock, complete with steel guitars and other guitar solo violence. It all comes out nicely on record, although some songs could have been a bit more compact. Now let's wait and see if The Sheer can maintain their live reputation with this material. (MS)more
