There is a strange area between 's theatrical rock and 's serious post-wave. The unworldly British trio Muse is completely at home here on his fifth album The Resistance. The album opens with a dark pulsating electronic boogie (Uprising) and works its way through the Queen-like choirs of United States of Eurasia to a three-part symphony, the closing track Exogenesis. Muse all the way out, but it
… seems as if the group is more convincing than ever by showing its color and by removing the term 'subtle' from the musical grid for good. The bombast rules and is the strength of this album. At the same time singer and guitarist Matthew Bellamy has started to sing less hysterically and precisely by showing more peace and less acrobatics in his vocals he knows how to give meaning to the songs. The question is whether he really has anything to say in loaded titles such as Resistance and Uprising. A musical resistance to moderation is certainly the modern symphonic rock of Muse. (MR)more
