Suddenly there she was in 2006, twenty-year-old Lily Allen whose cheerfully bouncing songs sounded familiar and innovative at the same time. Her lyrics, about her smoking little brother or about her cheating boyfriend, were taken from life. The cheerful young lady became a star and thus also had to deal with "old men with big telephoto lenses", who lay in the bushes in front of her house. And then
… it was time for a new album. The singer received an advance, but it progressed slowly. In the end you can't hear it. Allen still pens cheerful-sounding pop songs with sometimes particularly vicious lyrics. Take Fuck You, for example, an 'ode' to George W. Bush complete with a Carpenters-like choir. But Allen is also sensitive. She sings about her doubt and uncertainty in The Fear. Despite setbacks in her personal life, It's Not Me, It's You has become an uplifting pop album. “When I run out of songs, I just quit. Then I'll just do something else, ”Allen said recently in an interview. Hopefully the songs will keep coming. Especially when it produces such nice albums like this one. (PdK)more
