For a long time the red-haired singer Elske DeWall was the 'best kept secret in Friesland', but her debut album Balloon Over Paris will change that. For the singer / songwriter who graduated from the Academy for Pop Culture in Leeuwarden, a demo turned out to be enough to be contracted by the major record company Universal. She did send her on writing sessions with international singer / songwriters
… from England and Sweden. Then thirteen of the more than fifty - including a number of self-written - songs were selected for DeWall's debut. The album was recorded at the Kaleidoscope Sound Studio in New Jersey with producer Randy Crafton. Unfortunately for DeWall's own band members, including her husband and drummer Sietse Huisman, Crafton only wanted to work with musicians from her own circle. Fortunately Elske's sister Femke was allowed to provide the background vocals. The result is a pop album of international allure, organic sounding pop songs with hints of rock and country rock. DeWall is blessed with a beautiful soulful voice and a lot of musical talent. (SvdP)more
