It takes place in the second song of her fourth studio album The House. It was already announced in advance: after three successful jazzy soft-pop albums, the Georgian / British singer and songwriter Katie Melua wants something different and exchanges her permanent producer and writing partner Mike Batt for producer William Orbit (Madonna, Blur) and songwriter Guy Chambers (for years the man behind
… Robbie Williams). The aforementioned song The Flood opens in a moody way, still obeying the old Melua, only to burst into a pumping disco halfway through and end in a bombastic, musical-like finale. Elements that then continue to dominate the songs, in which the theatrical musical influences are even more striking than the electro beats. It seems that Chambers and Orbit took great pleasure in finally working with a good singer, because her warm and colorful voice is nowhere hidden behind production tricks, but is used to the full. Remarkable: the very far-fetched God On Drums, Devil On The Bass is Batt's only composition. A good choice from Melua to outsource her make-over to people who understand it. (MR)more
