Mojo is the first blues album by the American rock band Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. 'Blues lite' that is, because Petty does not deny his own style. Instead of the raw delta blues, Petty takes the various hybrids with other genres as a starting point, reverting to trusted sources. … First Flash Of Freedom winks at (Tribal Gathering) and Lover's Touch grinds against the lazy jazz blues of On. It is lead guitarist Mike Campbell who brings in a bit of a blues feeling with his cutting solos. The twelve-bar straightjacket unfortunately does not evoke the best in songwriter Tom Petty. More than as stand-alone compositions, the songs seem intended as vehicles for the band to jam. (MS)more
