Intriguer is the follow-up to the strong comeback album Time On Earth on which new drummer Matt Sherrrod introduced himself as a replacement for Paul Hester. Crowded House appeared to have hardly changed, but the world around them did, so the return largely passed by the general public. … Neil Finn has not forgotten how to compose pop gems. Especially the second half of the album (Isolation, Even If) offers beautiful introspective material, a bit more sombre and serious in tone than we are used to from them. The choice for Jim Scott as producer is a golden opportunity, he created a good balance between exciting and beneficial sounds. What has not changed: the predilection for cutting and sticking sleeves for which the qualification 'intriguing' is an understatement. (MS)more
