California Girls finally marked the end of the gumball period of the Beach Boys in 1965. With the almost classic intro to this pop song, the boys' group turned out to be innovators of pop music. Despite Katy Perry's summer hit California Gurls on Brian Wilson and co's key song. we should not immediately expect the same from her. In fact, Perry seems to be more and more enveloped in gumballs and
… cotton candy. Her second CD Teenage Dream even literally smells like a candy cane, albeit one of industrial cut. After the great success of the heavily produced debut One Of The Boys (2008), Perry and her producers Dr. Luke and Max Martin on the same road. The proven recipe of autotune, provocative lyrics and heavy guitars has hardly changed. And with that, the chances of new hits with this material are at least as great as before. Perry's bubblegum doll is frequently copied (see Miley Cyrus and Ke $ ha), but rarely equaled. Only the ballads miss the boat, because the heavily produced voice of Perry stands out like a plastic Christmas tree in a Swedish pine forest. All in all, a great continuation of a successful career.
