After the great success of Little Voice (2008) and the accompanying world tour, Sara Bareilles came home tired and anxious. What if she had already written her best material? Death to the second album syndrome Bareilles decided not to make a new CD. Her manager suggested recording only those few songs that she could still have written. Once in the studio, the singer got the ghost and within a month
… she had enough material for a new record. Despite its difficult history, this CD is not inferior to Little Voice. The collaboration with session musicians who have more than earned their spurs in music and producer Neal Avron (mainly known for American rock artists) ensures that not a note is played too much on this album. Bareilles herself also stands her ground. Not so much because she plays all kinds of antics with her voice, but mainly because of the nice choirs. They give that little bit extra character to the neat pop songs. Bareilles has a musically sound album with Kaleidoscope Heart, which can attract commercial attention. (JE)more
