It will look a bit as if the now adult musical prodigy Conor Oberst, aka Bright Eyes of madness, no longer knows what to do. In his early years he became a popular artist in alternative circles with his mystical and melodic form of americana. He then broke through this original sound with the pure roots music that he released under his own name. Then there was the classic rock group The Mystic Valley
… Band in which Oberst mainly showed himself at his down-to-earth level. This is followed by a new Bright Eyes album with which he once again throws sand in the eyes of anyone who thought he could get a hold of him. The People's Key is mainly dominated by eighties new wave, mixed with sung and spoken esoteric kitsch. For example, the album begins with a smooth narrator who reveals that the first paradise inhabitants were aliens. Quite interesting, but the songs remain a bit close and the electronics are cheap. Oberst will not have burned out all his talent too soon, will he? (MR)more
