In 2008 the Bahama Soul Club caused quite a stir in now jazz circles with their debut Rhythm Is What Makes Jazz Jazz, a contemporary reinterpretation of bossa nova. By adding contemporary influences and sophisticated inventions they managed to breathe new life into the genre. Two years later, the successor Bossa Nova Just Smells Funky saw the light. Although the title was a parody of Frank Zappa's
… quote "Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny." it unintentionally covered the load of the slightly disappointing CD that looked more like a less repetitive exercise than a serious continuation of the path taken. A problem that many bands have to contend with when producing a second album. To make up for this, the Bahama Soul Club gathered an army of friendly remixers around it to spruce up the songs. Outliers are the contributions of Suonho, Acusmatic Group, Tape Five (with the Rotterdam singer Sitzka), Minimatic and Dr. Rubber funk. (AD)more
