Era is the project of the French musician and film composer Eric Levi. As with Enigma and Adiemus, Era's music is intended to immerse the listener in a fanciful dream world. Levi mixes semi-classical music with atmospheric ambient, rock and pop. Gregorian-like vocals are sung in a fantasy language laced with Latin words. The video clips and CD cover photos show medieval knights on horseback, monks,
… ancient churches, Celtic crosses and magical swords. For his fifth Era album Classics, Levi was inspired by famous classical works by Caccini, Vivaldi, Verdi, Bach, Mahler, Handel, Vivaldi and Barber. He freely adapted the compositions adding his signature Era music. Classical purists will hate the result, but who knows, thanks to Era, the masses may discover the beauty of classical music. At the heart of the album, Ritus Pacis, we hear a recitation of the late Pope John Paul II to the heavenly music of Bach's Air. (SvdP)more
