The story of rapper Reks (real name: Corey Isaiah Christie) is one that we recognize with several rappers. As a native of Boston, Massachusetts, hip hop dominated much of his life. After initially aspiring a career as a breakdancer, he has come to appreciate the microphone more and more, influenced by rappers like Slick Rick and Ice Cube. After spending one year in college, Reks decided to continue
… his life in the studio and on stage. This decision has resulted in collaborations with greats such as DJ Premier, Large Professor and Ed OG. Since 2001 the official and underground releases have alternated. In 2011 Reks releases his sixth album and he names it after himself. The album kicks off with a hopeful DJ Premier production, about which Reks eagerly declares that this is his moment. With beats from The Alchemist, Pete Rock, Hi-Tek and Statik Selektah, he has also left nothing to chance. In addition to the boasting, the rapper also candidly shares some more personal stories with the listener. Nice record! (GL)more
