Since Idols (2002) there have been so many talent shows on television that the Dutch broadcasters actually fished in an increasingly empty pond. Many shows suffered from poor ratings and, moreover, the talent announced with a lot of noise was often of mediocre level. The Voice Of Holland (2010) was a nice exception. Ben Saunders, in his twenties with the amount of tattoos of a fifty-year-old Hell's
… Angel, immediately turned out to appeal to a large audience and has a great voice. Saunders eventually won the program, scoring three number 1 hits, which are of course on his debut. You Thought You Knew Me By Now is full of genuine poldersoul and soft pop with an almost perfect homely sound. The previously released hits have only been added as bonus tracks and the album remains an authentic whole full of future hit material. This is a solid record and we can look forward to the sequel. 'Remember, we've only just begun', it says in cow letters on the last page of the CD booklet. Just so you know. (JE)more
