By the time Super Trouper, ABBA's seventh album, was released, the group was already part of the pop aristocracy. A group that could therefore afford to write new songs in a resort in Barbados and sip a cocktail there with Paul McCartney and John Cleese. Unfortunately, the exotic environment inspired Björn & Benny only moderately and eventually the album was written off at home in Sweden.
Despite the writers block, the duo again produced a number of hits: the title track, Happy New Year and The Winner Takes It All. Björn Ulvaeus still denies that he wrote that last song about his divorce from Agnetha, but Agnetha's lived voice seems to tell a different story. That split was also the first crack in the incorruptible ABBA empire. After Super Trouper, the quartet would only release one more album. This beautiful reissue includes five extra songs and a DVD with promo clips and performances for German television. (PdK)more
