The Latin American rapper Pitbull is very tough, but is as tame as a lamb. While there was a clear Latin influence on his previous albums, on his sixth CD Planet Pit he exchanged reggaeton for an even more commercial sound. World domination will be higher on Pitbull's list than the delivery of a spicy hip-hop record. That does not mean that he does not have an ear for good music. He certainly has,
… and should his ears fail him, there's always the help of star producers RedOne, David Guetta and Dr. Luke. Pitbull's raps are accompanied by effective choruses on all twelve songs. These have invariably been sung by famous singers such as Marc Anthony, Kelly Rowland and Jammie Foxx. It almost can't go wrong with friends like that and it doesn't. Several reviewers have already pointed out that Planet Pit sounds like a greatest hits compilation in the making. With elements from Eurohouse, electro and R&B, Planet Pit is also nice and varied. Perhaps a horror for hip hop purists, because Pitbull doesn't growl. He just bleats a little. (JE)more
