Canadian hardcore band Fucked Up understands how to stand out with controversies. The band name already speaks volumes, but the band also flirts, led by the bulky roaring buoy Pink Eyes, with Nazi mysticism and symbols. At the same time, the proceeds of a cover of Do They Know It's Christmas (Band Aid) went to charity. The group made countless singles (collected on Couple Tracks in 2010) according
… to hardcore tradition, but also does not shy away from songs that exceed ten minutes. The third album David Comes To Life is a real hardcore opera about the young life and love of a certain David Eliade, with a libretto that is at least as elaborate and complicated as Tommy from The Who's. With three guitarists in the ranks, the group sets up walls of noise and riffs, over which the scream of Pink Eyes is most reminiscent of GG Allin. Beautiful contrasts give the somewhat childish female voices that occasionally assist him. It makes David Comes To Life an engaging hardcore album that you can both listen to and jump around on.
