The oeuvre that Peter Gabriel built up in more than three decades is quite modest. This has a lot to do with the desire for perfectionism of this eminent British singer. But as he gets older he seems to get more out of it. For example, he opted for hip and unconventional covers on his 2010 album Scratch My Back. He then went back to his own repertoire to perform this on stage with a forty-six piece
… orchestra. On the studio album with the same company he chose surprising titles, such as several songs from his underestimated fourth (self-titled) album from 1982. Among other things, the grim opener The Rhythm Of The Heat originates from this. The orchestra's arrangements sometimes appear avant-garde. His hits like Don 'sound more classic. Give Up (starring Ane Brun in the role of Kate Bush) and Solsbury Hill. He added the latter as a bonus track, as a gesture to his fans, but this bright and clear chamber music version perhaps surpasses the original. (MR)more
