The American group The Walkabouts was known for decades, especially in Europe with a typical American sound of dark country rock and Americana. This group, around singer / guitarist Carla Torgerson and singer / guitarist Chris Eckman, likes to paint a faded image of their homeland in raw and elementary guitar songs. Such as on the fifteenth studio album Travels In Dustland, which deals in eleven
… songs about the fictional American place Dustland. And whatever may be wrong there, it produces a record full of beautiful and desolate American sounds. Over the years, Torgerson and Eckman have become more passionate about singing and know how to touch you with every word. The same goes for Eckman's primarily wailing guitar solos. The dramatic musical narratives are sometimes assisted by strings, but this is nowhere at the expense of the raw atmosphere that the record exudes. Travels In The Dustland is The Walkabouts' first album in six years and is an undisputed highlight in their oeuvre. (MR)more
