"Anastasis" is the Greek word for resurrection. This is an appropriate title for this CD for various reasons. Firstly, Anastasis is Dead Can Dance's first CD in sixteen years. Second, the concept also beautifully covers the esoteric streak of this pioneering group. Also in 2012, Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard still know how to brew a unique sound from a multitude of influences. The combination of
… exotic instruments (including bouzouki, ud and bagpipes), slow rhythms and ambient drones make Dead Can Dance sound solemn, lofty and mysterious. Actually, there is no miss on this album. Songs like Kiko, the Arabic inspired Anabasis and the rustic closing track All In Good Time are among the best that Dead Can Dance recorded. (PdK)more
