With his guitar as the main weapon and with thick glasses, Anne Soldaat is on the cover of his second solo album. There is no laughing matter. Is the guitarist who we know as a tastemaker of Daryll-Ann and Tim Knol's band, is going to serve us an angry CD? Of course not! When the CD is taken out of the sleeve, a broadly smiling Soldier appears in the home studio of Jason Falkner, also the producer
… of his first solo album. Falkner and Soldier are fellow sufferers, separated by the Atlantic Ocean. Both are mainly known as Sinterklaas helpers, although they also have a modest following of loyal fans. Together they once again deal in pleasant listening pop, which is inspired by the sunny sound that has been coming from Los Angeles for more than fifty years. LA is home to Falkner and Soldaat writes in the liner notes that he wouldn't want to work with anyone else. You can hear why. The forties know what they can do and complement each other perfectly. It is not all very exciting, but that was probably not the intention. Everything is in place, except maybe the cover photo. (JE)more
