Roughly speaking, there are two groups with an opinion about Bob Dylan. On the one hand he is worshiped and on the other he is seen as a hoarse crow spouting unintelligible texts. Dylan's thirty-fifth studio album in fifty years is unlikely to attract new fans, but his loyal followers will have been eagerly awaiting Tempest. Even at the age of 71, Dylan cannot be called a nightingale, but his lyrics
… are still as poetic as they are recognizable. Those beautiful lyrics are recited with a lived, raw voice and that makes Tempest a beautiful, credible record. As he gets older Dylan seems to be more and more concerned with death and that can be heard regularly on this album. For example, Tin Angel is about a triple murder and suicide, . Yet the grandmaster nowhere sounds like a man for whom the end is near. Songs like Duquesne Whistle and Narrow Way show too much passion and ambition for that. That suggests that Tempest will certainly not be his last work. And fortunately. (BvdV)more
