In an interview with OOR, the guys from Muse reluctantly admit: 'Simplicity is more difficult for Muse than bombast'. Precisely in curtailing their many ideas lies the challenge for the trio. That does not mean that Muse is not going on a bombastic tour anywhere. On the contrary. Take the ambitious Survival, a song where Bellamy a -like throat design. To increase the drama, a choir plays its stretched
… notes extra hard. Fortunately, the trio is not full on the organ in every song. The single Madness starts out downright bare: with a pulsating synthesizer and a modest vocal line by Bellamy. It might just be the best song on this album. Compared to previous albums, the electronic influences have increased on The 2nd Law. In the white funk of Panic Situation there is even room for a danceable bass line. It actually works. Muse experiments on this sixth album, but the trio makes sure that their characteristic group sound is never lost. The many fans of the group couldn't wish for a better album. (PdK)more
