In mid-2012 the Handsome Poets hit the charts with their infectious single Sky On Fire. This is partly due to the NOS, which uses the number in the reports of the Olympic Games in London. Two years earlier, the Handsome Poets were a fairly anonymous band from Gouda and they had to rely on performances in secondary schools. The band has now outgrown those stages. With their second album the group
… makes a big leap forward, because it all sounds a bit slicker and more professional than their self-titled debut album from 2011. The band has also undergone a transformation. The Trou Borst brothers have left the band due to a difference of opinion, but the gap they left behind has been filled flawlessly by guitarist Eelke Mastebroek. Little has changed in terms of sound: The ten songs on the album are accessible, catchy and above all carefree. That makes a Sky On Fire a delicious and cheerful record. (BvdV)more
