For Shawn Colvin, it seemed that it couldn't go wrong in the nineties. She conquered the world with A Few Small Repairs and seemed to have a long successful career as a singer / songwriter. But the albums that followed were long in coming and could not match the quality of A Few Small Repairs. Colvin has again taken her time to write All Fall Down, because predecessor These Four Walls dates back to
… 2006. This time the calm between the two albums has clearly done her good. She enlisted the help of Buddy Miller, who fulfilled the production process with gusto, turning All Fall Down into a decent americana record. But not only Miller does his part. As on previous albums, Colvin wrote a number of songs with successful colleagues. This time, among others, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Jakob Dylan and Buddy Miller himself contributed, which has improved the quality of the songs. All Fall Down may not compete with the successful A Few Small Repairs, but it is without a doubt her strongest work since the turn of the century. (BvdV)more
