Fortunately, Jamie Lidell had more inspiration for filling a new CD than for coming up with a catchy album title. His new home in Nashville in general and the studio built in it in particular provided the necessary inspiration. It sounds like it is packed with a very large collection of analog synthesizers. This makes the CD sound like an eighties production, when snare drums still sounded like
… slamming car doors and the synth rack began to take pride of place on pop stages. The music is very much like Prince in his prime. Lidell's production lacks its swinging bass lines. It chops, chops and thrusts, but grooving doesn't do it anywhere. Lidell prefers to have catchy melodies, while he wants to funk so much. Maybe he should consider hiring a bass player. (AD)more
